Popgeist isn’t afraid to admitting a bit of a crush on Marina of “& The Diamonds” fame ever since we saw her play Hoxton Bar & Grill towards the end of last year. Not only does she prove geneticists right with her mixed Greek/Welsh heritage that spreading the genes apart has desirable results, but she’s got a voice that puts X Factor contestants to shame and charisma to match.

We were therefore very happy when she came second in the BBC’s Sound of 2010 poll, and even happier to discover that her forthcoming album ‘The Family Jewels’ is very good indeed. It’s debatable whether or not it will prove too quirky for mainstream success, but it’s a strong set of songs and hints at even greater things in the future.
